Spring Cleaning: Begin with the Dishwasher

RSS

When did you last clean your dishwasher? As one of the hardest working appliances in your home, your dishwasher deserves a thorough cleaning every few months. Did you know you can easily and safely clean your dishwasher with products you likely have around the house? No harsh chemicals required!

You'll need to have white vinegar, baking soda, and a little bit of time to run through two washing cycles. A pair of gloves is helpful but not required. Begin with an empty dishwasher. With gloves on, sweep the drain area for debris and place in the garbage. Next, add one cup of white vinegar to a dishwasher-safe bowl and place on the top rack. Choose the hottest heat setting and run the dishwasher through a cycle. The heat combined with vinegar will loosen any grease or grime and will work to deodorize the unit.

After the first cycle is complete, generously sprinkle one cup of baking soda on the bottom of the dishwasher. Baking soda will brighten your unit as well as deodorize and aid in removing any musty smells. Again, select the hottest water temperature and run the dishwasher through a cycle, and you're done!

You'll want to clean your dishwasher every few months. Stay tuned for more spring cleaning tips from Moneta Cookware USA!
